The formation of Ionic Bonds is quite simple. An Ionic bond is when a cation releases some of thier electrons to stable electron configuration. Both Sodium and Chloride have different electron configurations, but when combined, they make up NaCl. NaCl or salt as we know it, has a stable electron configuration and they both balance each other out.
